Citizen's Police Academy
I hope you enjoy the following information regarding our Citizen's Police Academy.
The purpose is to provide the citizens of Northfield an opportunity to learn more about
the Police Department, the officers, and the different tasks performed by the
Department.
The Citizen's Police Academy will meet for three hours each week - usually on Wednesday evenings - for 12
weeks. This includes a ride-along program, which will be scheduled at each participant's
convenience during the Academy. The classes will begin promptly at 6:30pm and
end by 9:30pm.
Each week a different topics and aspects of the Police Department will be covered.
The Curriculum includes:
- Introduction, history of the Department, a tour of the Station, information regarding
the LEAPS Program and Community Policing.
- Criminal and Constitutional Law
- Patrol Procedures and Use of Force
- K-9 and Search & Rescue
- Narcotics and Related Investigations
- Investigations and Internal Affairs
- OUI, Radar and Booking Procedures
- Domestic Violence and Sex Crimes
- Motor Vehicle stops (role play)
- Your Court and How It Works
- First Aid and TRIAD
- Graduation Exercises
Classes are held at the Northfield Town Hall in the Senior Center.
