On August 23, 2009 the 75th anniversary of hosteling in the U.S. was marked with a dedication ceremony where it all began.This engraved mill wheel was unveiled at 88 Main Street Northfield, Massachusetts marking the site where Isabel and Monroe Smith founded the first American Youth Hostel. Members of HI USA and Northfield's Village Improvement Society, the Historical Society and Historical Commission organized the dedication and were present for the ceremony.
